Couples' Feature: Oba & Ayaba

By The LSV Team · January 25, 2026

Meet Oba and Ayaba as they lovingly call themselves. They have been married 3 years and they make it look really easy.

We know no marriage is effortless, so we reached out for some insights on how they are making it work for them.

How did you meet?

Oba: We met on the gram (Instagram), I slid into her DM as a sharp guy.

Back story – I saw her on my friend's Snapchat and I was attracted to her. I asked my friend (Ebun) for her info but she didn't want to give me claiming I was a bad guy.

Long story short, I got her handle, followed her then private account, waited till she accepted. Liked 4 photos on her page. Lol. The rest they say is history.

Ayaba: My friend (Ebun) came to visit to me – I was just meeting her physically for the first time. Out of excitement, she made a video of me and posted it in her snap. After a while she told me her friend (Fowosere) wanted my number but she doesn't want to give him because he was for the streets! Anyways, Baba didn't give up so she gave him my IG handle. He sent a request but I didn't accept till after some days (Shakara), we got talking and here we are!

What is the most romantic gesture your wife has done?

Oba: Most romantic gesture; Hmm, has to be our 1st wedding anniversary she had my friend Bunmi come get me to discuss and she transformed our whole living room into a private dinning. Candles, slow music, drinks and a lot of meals. I cried that day, I was very emotional because no one had ever done that kind of thing for me. That night was bomb if you know what I mean.

What was the relationship progression?

Oba: I met her in October, we had our first date November 13 at ICM.

Funny story, I was about an hour late to the date, Madam was pissed already but I got there and swept her off her feet in my blue well starched native.

I was on her case from when I met her because I just couldn't imagine not having her, and for the first time in my life I waited for over 3 months before I could get her to say yes.

3 whole months, I've had relationships that were shorter than 3 months. We started dating on the 3rd of March 2018. I have never chased a girl for that long.

We got engaged on the 25th of May 2019, got married 22nd of August, same year.

What is the most romantic gesture your husband has done?

Ayaba: This is hard to pick, I really appreciate the smallest details. I see him working hard into the night, pushing himself to be better when he can afford to sit down and be okay with the average. When I get emotional and tell him to take a break, he would always say he is hustling to give me the life I deserve so he has to go the extra mile. I don't know what is more romantic than that. All I can do at that moment is pray for him.

The best marriage advice you received?

Oba: Never hide anything from yourselves. It has really helped us.

Ayaba: When you have misunderstandings, try not to "report" your partner to people, even your parents; because when you resolve that issue, you will move on but those that you told will still have an impression about your partner.

What do you love most about your Partner?

Ayaba: His thoughtfulness and intentionality towards me.

Oba: I love the fact that she chose me.

When and how did you know she was the one?

Oba: I knew from when I met her that she was different. On Friday the 24th, I was at her place and she made Efo and Eba, I normally don't eat Efo but because it looked so good I decided to try it, my God it was amazing. I gathered all my money and bought a ring the next day.

Did you have any expectations of marriage that differs from current reality? How so?

Ayaba: Well, I have been very happy in my marriage, however, the first year was a roller coaster!

You know when you are dating and everything is rosy, when your partner gets on your nerves, you can afford to do Shakara and go home. When you finally enter the marriage, you can't go back to your parent's house, you have to face the problem and resolve it.

Oba: Most people make marriage feel uncool, you need to have your guards up bla bla bla, but so far I've been living a fairytale, we have our fights and misunderstandings, but I see it all as part of the process.

What advice will you give a couple that just got married?

Oba: Be best friends. Talk about everything and forgive easily because why not. Comparison is the steal of joy, marriage is not bulletproof to cheating and having emotions for other people, be wise and guard your heart.

Ayaba: Marriage is sweet but you have to put in the work, get ready to unlearn, learn and relearn. Be open minded. At the same time you will get lots of advice from different people, take the one that is applicable and tailor it to your marriage.
